A standard drone flute consists of two barrels. One barrel has 6 holes and plays like a regular flute. The second barrel plays one note only, usually the same key as the primary tone. Drone flutes have separate openings allowing the player to use one barrel or both barrels during play. The drone barrel plays the same tone as the primary barrel with all holes covered.
